Of Italian descent and a native of Chicago Illinois Paula has a life long connection to the arts. Born into a gifted family of stone masons and artisans, Paula was raised around creative projects, construction and historical properties. Appreciation of “what came before and honoring the past” was ingrained at an early age. Paula began her journey into the arts by the time she was old enough to grasp a pencil and paint brush. Raised by a pianist mother and contractor father Paula was exposed to music, teaching, building and following out a project from planning to end.
Paula Attended Columbia for her undergrad and earned a BFA in Studio Painting- Fine Arts and a double major in Art History. After college Paula pursued graduate work and Earned an MFA and later an MsSPED in Special Education. It was by accident Paula stumbled into her other passion, teaching. While opening up a visual and performing arts community center on the Southside of Chicago- in the Brighton Park Neighborhood -Paula ran into her first students. From here the spark was ignited and Ms. Baldocchi has been a Special Education Teacher and Behavioral Specialist for the last 16 years. Paula believes in service to your community that you live and has split her educational experience between inner city south side of Chicago ( Englewood/ Fuller Park) and West Rogers Park. Ms. Baldocchi is an active advocate for public education and is employed by Chicago Public Schools. She views her students as her extended family and prides herself on blending creative and research based methods in order to better reach people with disabilities and specializes in Emotional disabilities and positive behavioral interventions. Paula views both careers as seamless and one supporting the other.
When not in her studio Paula is working in her home studio. Painting and Drawing are main focuses. Although classically trained in oils, Ms. Baldocchi is currently working in acrylic abstraction and stylized realism in her portraits. Oil Based colored pencils are a beloved medium. Animals are a recurrent theme. Animal advocacy and dog rescue is a passion. Ms. Baldocchi currently has 3 rescue dogs and has fostered- placed and socialized countless others. Bully breeds and Chihuahuas hold a special place in her heart. The last two years have seen a rise and development in another business avenue, animal and pet portraits. A pet is a member of the family unit and Paula is able to capture the soul and spunk that each individual critter brings to the world. A portion of EVERY pet and or animal portrait gets donated to a breed or rescue organization of the client’s choice. Paula looks forward to and cherishes every pet portrait commission. She enjoys working with the client in order to produce a piece that not only honors and pays tribute to the special soul but is a timeless reminder that life is about the people and pets we get to spend it with.
Paula Baldocchi has works in private collections all over the globe. Paula has pieces in Kyoto Japan, various states in the United States, Egypt, Canada, Italy Mexico and France.
A lover of people and collaboration Paula enjoys meeting other artists and prospective clients. She is prompt with communication and email is often the fastest mode to reach her.
